- Room for Rent - by Becks Chambers For Rent: The Most Inhabited One Bed Flat in the World.
Many unusual rustic water features The property is accessed via a charming wooden
'pontoon' path. The main entrance is set around a sunken all weather seated area
(approx. 9ft x 6ft), known locally as the 'Cockpit' (or 'Snakepit' depending on
motivation/tidying skills of crew). Around
the Cockpit is where all the Utilities & Services of this unique property
are found; the Spinning Winches, Steering Wheel, and most importantly the
Sunscreen holder & Stereo Speakers. In
fine weather the Cockpit is a glorious sun-trap; in less fine weather it
converts nicely, at the flick of a wave, into a 9ft x 6ft swimming pool. From the Cockpit the living accommodation is
accessed through a right angle hatch space, with a beautiful French Polished
(180 degrees vertical) staircase, taking you into the: Entrance Hall: (approx. 6ft x 2 ft) Situated within the entrance hall is a cloaks rail
that happily accommodates up to 15 oilies of varying degrees of dripping wet,
wringing wet and mildly mouldy. Store Cupboard/Skippers Cabin (approx. 7ft x 3ft) Immediately to the left of the entrance hall is a cupboard, commonly known
as the Skippers Cabin; easily accessible for waves and therefore midnight dips
in the pool when 'all hands on deck' are required. A highly desirable space
offering (virtually no) privacy. NavStation/Diary Room/Study (approx. 2ftx 2ft) A compact room where much activity takes place
(ahem). Used for communication with the outside world, and all important
exchanges of positions (gossip) that takes place every 12hrs, known as "the
sched". A characterful room full of state of the art equipment, where much
head-scratching/tears/laughter has/will take place. Galley kitchen (approx. 8ftx 3ft) Fully fitted white units, with handy 'hand holes'
rather than traditional cupboard doors. It
is currently organised as one hole for tins, one hole for pasta etc. There is
the added feauture of a seawater tap, particularly useful when the fresh water
maker breaks down (a recent occurrence). There
is a compact oven incorporating grill and hob, supplied by a well known
manufacturer of one-man camping equipment. Lounge (approx. 8ft x 6ft), incorporating
gangway to bedroom Plastic seated area with pole (dancing) feature.
Fully stocked library, specialising in 'Disaster at Sea' books, After
Dinner game books and soggy playing cards.
Large kitchen unit style' hole' for vast CD collection.
Situated within the lounge area is a 1ft x1ft
low level wc. Generally used
by the male tenants it is separated from the galley by a splash proofcurtain
(thank god). Female tenants tend to use this convenience only when in great
inconvenience. Bedroom with en-suite shower room (approx.
15ft x 20ft) Accommodating up to 14 people (though more has been
known), the bedroom comprises 14 6ft x 2ft bunks with water-dripping mast
feature in the centre of the room. The bunks each have their own 'storage' a 2ft
x 2ft cave locker, also with own personal water feature.
The bedroom has 2 skylight hatches, great for throwing wet things
through: sails, oillies, boots and
occasionally people (when the vertical steps are proving a little too much). Shower Room (approx. 2ft x 2ft) Hand-held shower with very hot or very cold
controls. Low level wc, liable to sloshing over feet when in high 'winds'.....as
it were. All in all a highly desirable property, and a
wonderful place to spend time with friends! Price on application...........
